RKA prepared a traffic solutions study for the Town in an effort to evaluate potential traffic solutions at the Bermuda Run Gate located on US 158 in Bermuda Run, NC. As part of the traffic study, RKA also prepared conceptual roadway design plans and 3-D animation for the selected alternative as part of the study. Additionally, RKA was selected by the Town to prepare the Programmatic Categorical Exclusion (PCE) document and provide final roadway design plans for the roundabout at the Bermuda Run Gate. A single lane roundabout was constructed at the intersection to act as a gateway into the Town. Crosswalks and pedestrian facilities were constructed along Bermuda Run Drive and along the south side of US 158. Additional pedestrian facilities were constructed in accordance with the Town of Bermuda Run’s comprehensive Plan dated April 2012. This project is included in the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. Coordination with NC SHPO was needed due to the presence of a historical property adjacent to the project. This is a Locally Administered Project Program (LAPP) project.
RKA received the 2017 Honor Award in the Engineering Excellence competition for this project from the American Council of Engineering Companies of North Carolina.
