RKA is evaluating short-term and long-term Multi-modal improvement strategies to address existing and future traffic congestion along the US 17 corridor in Charleston County, SC. The study corridor extends from the Savannah Highway at Avondale Avenue across the Ashley River Bridges and through the Crosstown to the intersection with I-26 near Coming Street, and includes the intersections and interchanges with SC 61, Wesley Drive, Folly Road, Lockwood Boulevard, and the James Island Connector. The project study will include an overall master plan for transportation planning and land use development along the US 17 corridor, including improvements to provide safer bicycle and pedestrian travel throughout the project area, a traffic microsimulation model of all proposed improvements, planning-level cost estimates, benefit-to-cost and suitability matrices, and a staging plan for the proposed improvements.
