Mr. Dennis is a graduate of Clemson University with a Master’s of Science degree in Environmental System Engineering and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Dennis joins RKA after holding numerous roles at South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) for over 24 years. Mr. Dennis’ primary role with RKA includes expanding RKA’s transportation engineering and transportation planning services in South Carolina, as well as firm wide.
On a more personal note, we asked Mr. Dennis to answer a few questions related to the engineering industry.
What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years?
I hope to help to continue to grow RKA in South Carolina as well as the Southeast. I hope to expand the RKA brand and provide outstanding engineering services to
both public and private clients. I hope to learn many new engineering principles and activities.
What advice would you give to someone looking to get into the engineering industry?
It takes a tremendous work ethic to become an engineer. Also, never stop learning and never stop listening. Remember you are not always right and not always
wrong, but learning to listen to what someone who has a differing opinion than yours can be your best education.
How do you keep a healthy work/life balance?
For the past 8 months I have been trying to walk at least 2 miles a day for 5 days a week. I have mixed some running in with my walking.
Where would you like to travel if you could go anywhere in the world?
Right now my favorite place is the Colorado Mountains. A relative of mine was from Germany and she always talked about skiing in the Alps. I think if I had the opportunity I would go to Europe to ski the Alps.
What is one of your favorite mottos/quotes?
God gave us two ears and one mouth because we should listen twice as much as we talk.
What are some other facts about yourself that you would like to share?
I have 3 children – my son, Jackson, is a sophomore at Clemson. My oldest daughter, Grace, is a sophomore at River Bluff HS and plays Varsity volleyball. My youngest
daughter, Anna, is a seventh grader at Meadow Glen Middle School and enjoys playing the violin and acting.
