Signal Design: VA Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC

Location: Fayetteville, NC

Key Tasks: Signal design

RKA was responsible for the preparation of a traffic impact analysis report, air quality study, and traffic signal design plans for the new VA Medical Center located on US 401 (Raeford Road)  between Gillis Hill Road and Old Raeford Road in Fayetteville, NC.  The VA Medical Clinic is 350,000 s.f. in size.  A new full movement driveway was proposed on Raeford Road and a traffic signal was approved for this intersection as part of the project.  RKA prepared the traffic signal design plans for the driveway intersection.  In addition, turn lane improvements were recommended on Raeford Road and Old Raeford Road at the site driveways.

An air quality study was prepared by RKA to obtain a Transportation Facility Permit (TFP) for the medical center.  This permit was obtained from the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Division of Air Quality (DAQ) Section.  The study evaluated intersection operations to determine if additional detailed dispersion modeling was necessary.
