check mark8.5 NCDOT Project Rating

RKA prepared the traffic signal, electrical detail, and wireless communication plans for NCDOT TIP Project U-4909. The project consisted of the widening of SR 2643 (Union Cross Road), from SR 2691 (Wallburg Road) to SR 2632 (Sedge Garden Road) in Forsyth County, NC. RKA prepared a total of 41 traffic signal and electrical detail plans, consisting of 12 final designs and 29 temporary designs. The existing I-40 and Union Cross Road interchange was retrofitted to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), which is one of the first locations in the state to utilize this type of interchange. RKA prepared the complex traffic signal designs for the two DDI intersections, which were the first designs of this type to be approved by the NCDOT. In addition to the traffic signal and electrical detail designs, RKA prepared wireless communications plans in order to allow all signals along the project corridor to communicate via wireless radio. Pedestrian signals were included on several of the final intersection designs.
